The Homeland Security Terror Color Level Chart — the chart that launched a zillion jokes and even more lazy Halloween costumes — will be retired in April, according to an anonymous official in Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano’s office. Napolitano is expected to make it official on Thursday, along with revealing that automated terror-level announcements will cease in airports. The color-coded chart was introduced by President George W. Bush after September 11, 2001, and was highly touted by original Homeland Security head Tom Ridge. The chart hasn’t actually been updated since 2006. In its place, Obama is expected to unveil a National Terrorism Advisory System, which may or may not also include a rainbow of terror designations.
