Queens Pot-Growing Firefighter Gets Five Years

Just because you may have saved some lives doesn’t mean you get to grow all the drugs you want. It’s a hard lesson that Queens firefighter Patrick Murray learned. Last summer, Murray — who was based out of the Woodside, Queens, department — was convicted of conspiring to grow more than 100 marijuana plants. On Tuesday he was sentenced to five years in prison for possession — and for supplying the weed to a drug-trafficking ring. He was caught after an anonymous caller reported him hauling grow lamps out of his apartment. Neighbors also complained that the basement in the apartment building in which he lived often smelled like weed. Murray is a celebrated member of the FDNY, with two citations for heroism. [NYP]
