Alan Dershowitz Joins Team WikiLeaks

Tuesday morning the U.S. government will attempt its first round of legal battles against Julian Assange and WikiLeaks — and they’ll do it via Twitter. The U.S. Attorney General brought an action against Twitter, demanding that it disclose information about people who have used Twitter from WikiLeaks. Twitter is expected to resist the order. Assange won’t be participating in the case because, he claims, as an Australian citizen the U.S. courts have no jurisdiction over him.

But Assange does have a new man on his team: Esteemed lawyer and Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz has been brought on to help advise Assange’s lawyer, Geoffrey Robertson QC, on the intricacies of the American legal system. Dershowitz is best known for representing British socialite Claus von Bulow in his 1984 murder appeal case and acting as an adviser to the defense during the O.J. Simpson trial.
