Donald Trump Would Defeat Despots With Shady Real Estate Deals

Correction: Trump has already defeated a despot with a shady real estate deal. Remember two years ago when Muammar Qaddafi needed a place to pitch his enormous air-conditioned Bedouin tent while he was in New York for a speech at the United Nations? Through intermediaries, the Libyan dictator rented out Trump’s Bedford, New York, estate for him, only to be kicked off a couple of days later by Trump after neighbors complained and the ruse was uncovered. This morning, Trump recounted this tale to Fox News as an example of his inestimable experience.

I think I probably have more experience of anybody [in the GOP field] — whether I sell them real estate for tremendous amounts of money. I mean, I’ve dealt with everybody.

And by the way, I can tell you something else. I dealt with Gaddafi.

I rented him a piece of land. He paid me more for one night than the land was worth for two years, and then I didn’t let him use the land.

That’s what we should be doing. I don’t want to use the word “screwed”, but I screwed him.

That’s what we should be doing? As in, again? We’re dubious that accidentally ripping off dictators in shady real estate deals can be replicated as an effective foreign policy strategy, but you never know. Let’s reach out to Kim Jong Il and see if he has any interest in a relaxing weekend getaway in Westchester.
