Newt Gingrich’s Presidential Campaign Is Already Confusing People

Yesterday, Newt Gingrich’s “top strategist for more than twenty years” and guy who probably had a miserable time in high school, Joe Gaylord, told the Des Moines Register that Gingrich would announce the creation of an exploratory committee in Atlanta on Thursday, which is a first step toward declaring as a candidate for president. Not only that, but, as Politico writes, “Gingrich advisers had spent the whole day confirming just that to numerous news organizations.” And yet later last night, Gingrich’s spokesman released an official statement clarifying that Gingrich “will NOT announce the formation of an exploratory committee” on Thursday. Now everyone is just confused. False start … offense … (potential) number 45 … five-yard penalty … repeat first down.
