Woman Beaten Into Coma Over Parking Spot on 14th Street

This is one of those stories that you hope your parents in the suburbs never read, because it reveals how close you are to insane tragedy at any given moment in New York City, even if you’re performing the most mundane of tasks. [Ed to mom: This definitely did not occur on my block, outside the Dunkin’ Donuts where I get coffee on Saturdays, I swear.] Last Friday night at 11:40 p.m., 25-year-old Lana Rosas was saving a parking spot for her boyfriend between two parked cars on 14th Street between Avenues A and B. Oscar Fuller, 35, pulled up in a minivan and tried to take the space. Not knowing that Fuller has had prior busts for weapons possession and felony assault, Rosas explained that the spot was taken and tried to shoo him off. Fuller got out, started screaming at the four-foot-eleven girl, and then, according to the police report, “punched [her] in the face with so much force that the woman flew off her feet.” She is currently in a coma and has suffered brain damage. According to police, she may not survive the attack. Witnesses at the scene nabbed Fuller’s license plate number and ID’d him in a lineup, and now he is in police custody.
