Nearly Half of Iowa Republicans Say President Obama Wasn’t Born in the United States

The latest PPP poll shows 48 percent of registered Republicans in Iowa saying Obama was not born in the U.S. and 26 percent saying they couldn’t be sure. But before you thank Donald Trump for his contribution to American politics, that percentage is actually less than the national average for typical Republican primary voters. An earlier PPP poll from February showed that 51 percent of Republicans thought he was born outside the U.S. In today’s poll, only 19 percent of birthers said they supported Trump, where 25 percent chose to back someone who will actually be running: Mike Huckabee.
