Legislature Gives Itself Extra Vacation for a Job Satisfactorily Done

Members of New York’s legislature were already scheduled to take a thirteen-day break for Easter and Passover this year, but they decided that, because they got the budget in on time this year, which is what they’re supposed to do, they’re going to add another week to their vacation, bringing it to eighteen days. “People take breaks,” Senate majority Dean G. Skelos says. “We worked hard on the budget.” Lawmakers will be in Albany for 61 days this year, earning a base salary of $79,500. [City Room/NYT]
