Wisconsin Democrats are filing a recall petition today against State Senator Dan Kapanke, the first salvo in their effort to recall eight Republican state senators as punishment for passing that controversial union-busting bill earlier this month (state law only allows recalls against legislators who have been in office for at least a year. The Hill reports that “all of the recall petitions are gathering significant support, ahead of schedule, and multiple petitions with the required signatures will [be] filed in the coming days and weeks.” After a petition is filed, the Government Accountability Board has 31 days to review the signatures, and if everything passes muster, an election is scheduled for six weeks after that. It’s not going to be a sleepy summer in Wisconsin. Well, it might still be, but less sleepy than before.
