Officially, Tim Pawlenty, like Mitt Romney, is only exploring a run for president. He’s not quite sure yet, supposedly, but he’s looking into it, and he’ll let us know when he “decides.” So it ruined the charade a bit when, on Piers Morgan Tonight last night, Pawlenty said this when asked if he’d consider serving as someone’s vice-president: “I’m running for president. I’m not putting my hat in the ring rhetorically or ultimately for vice-president. I’m focused on running for president.” Pawlenty later clarified that he’ll have a “final or full announcement in the coming weeks,” and a spokesman insisted that Pawlenty “didn’t announce tonight.” Ultimately, none of this matters nearly as much as the poll that Morgan mentioned on the show: Pawlenty, at the moment, has 2 percent support among Republican voters.
