The Bronx Zoo got its Shawsnake back, but lost a peacock. On Tuesday afternoon, a green peahen escaped from the zoo and perched itself on top of a parking van on Morris Park Avenue, several blocks from the zoo. Zoo workers attempted to stealthily sneak up on the bird, but she flew off before they could capture her. She was later spotted in front of the 180th Street subway station, where excited residents took cell phone pics of the bird in action. “This is so exciting, It’s like I’m watching Animal Planet,” said onlooker Francisco Pineda. But the zoo isn’t terribly concerned about their missing bird: “Usually they wander back on their own,” said Nancy Clum, the zoo’s curator of ornithology. “They want to be at the zoo. There’s lots of food and less traffic.”
