President Obama asked Congress to extend Robert Mueller’s term as FBI director rather than enforce mandatory retirement for the 66-year-old, putting aside the search for candidates to replace him. The president called Mueller the “gold standard for leading the Bureau” and cited ongoing terrorist threats, but it sounds like the shake-up at the top of the CIA and Defense departments expected later this year isn’t going as smoothly as planned. I’m going to spend the next year as a private citizen, but I do indeed intend to run for office again. I’m not sure for what, and I am not exactly certain when. I need to take a nap. But once I do, I’m planning to get back into the ring.
