Tens of Thousands Gather for Space Shuttle Endeavor Launch

Over 50,000 people gathered at Cape Canaveral early this morning to watch the second-to-last launch of the space shuttle Endeavor, which had been delayed after equipment failure late last month. Among the viewers was recovering U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, whose husband Mark Kelly was the captain of the shuttle mission. She watched from within the Kennedy Space Center (and seems to have called it the “greatest show on earth”). Kelly’s six-man team will arrive at the International Space Station in two days and remain there for two more weeks after they’ve delivered a $2 billion particle physics experiment.
