Greek Parliament Approves Austerity Measures

As strikers rioted in Athens, the Greek Parliament voted 155 to 138 to approve extreme austerity measures necessary to prevent the nation from running out of money in the coming weeks. Greece owes 340 billion euro in debt, or 31,000 euro a citizen. The austerity measures, which included drastic cuts and tax hikes, were necessary to secure a 110 billion euro loan from the IMF.
