Rebels in Libya’s western mountains have advanced closer to Tripoli, and they’re reportedly battling Muammar Qaddafi’s forces in a strategic town southwest of the capital, increasing pressure against government troops. The fighting follows weeks in which opposition forces have slowly pushed Qaddafi’s troops back toward Tripoli. However, government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim says Qaddafi is “in high spirits,” strangely, and “will remain in Libya.” [AP]
