It’s that time of year when millions of high-school students across the country don an ugly cap and gown ensemble, saunter slowly across a stage, shake hands with someone they probably spent the last four years of their life hating, and are handed their diploma. Except for those students whose parents decided the best place to educate them was inside the safety of their own homes, right? Wrong, because now even home-school kids are getting in on the whole commencement game.
According to today’s New York Times, graduation ceremonies are popping up across the country for those of the now 2 million home-schooled students who have completed their high-school educations. While they may resemble any other high-school graduations, there are a few key differences, like the students not knowing each other and some of them graduating from schools named after their parents (Jessica Jeanine Foster was fortunate enough to graduate from Boris Foster High School). Because of these and other issues, not all the students are too keen on the idea, but luckily when that happens their parents are there to encourage them otherwise:
That’s right, the last thing you would want is for your child to miss out on any part of the typical high-school experience.
