Rent-Regulation and Property-Tax Deal Likely to Be Voted on Tonight in State Senate

A bill combining a five-year property-tax cap and four more years of rent regulation is being swiftly hammered out in Albany at the moment, with the expectation that it will be voted on tonight or tomorrow. According to the Times Union, vacancy decontrol will remain in place, but the rental trigger will rise from $2,000 to $2,500, and the income trigger will jump to $200,000 from $175,000. These bills are being worded and typed up now for a quick turnaround after the deal was presented to the Assembly and Senate today. Notably, there’s still no sign of the wording to the much-hyped religious exemptions to Cuomo’s marriage-equality bill, even though GOP lawmakers say they’ve been working on them since the weekend. Dinner has been ordered at the capitol, but there will reportedly be no vote on marriage tonight.
