Sarah Palin Gets Out-Meaned by Margaret Thatcher

During the last couple of election cycles, Sarah Palin acquired a reputation as a queen bee, mean-girl type. Anyone who has even a passing familiarity with teen movies knows such a type is due her comeuppance. Like clockwork, here comes Palin’s.

Her first mistake was admitting someone else is cooler than she is (always guard your flank!). Palin gushed to press that on her way to Sudan this summer, she’d love to swing by England and meet Margaret Thatcher, whom she “so admires.” The feeling is anything but mutual, apparently. Thatcher has avoided making public appearances lately because of her health, but friends tell The Guardian she could probably be in marathon-running shape and not want to meet with the former governor: “That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts.”

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney’s also piling on, sounding positively gleeful about Palin’s bus tour: “In a lot of respects, it’s the best thing that could happen to me.” Burnnn. From a nerd, no less — the true sign a mean-girl reign is over.
