Four months after NATO allies entered Libya, and a week after NATO began recognizing Libyan rebels as their own government, U.S. officials had a three-hour face-to-face chat in Tunisia over the weekend with officials from Muammar Qaddafi’s Libyan government. Washington says the purpose of the meeting was to reiterate its demand that Qaddafi “must go,” and that the talks were “not the start of negotiations.” Libyan spokesman Musa Ibrahim, on the other hand, said, “We support any dialogue, any peace initiative.” Ibrahim would not name the officials who participated in the talks.
