Macaques Found to Be Even More Like Humans Than Previously Suspected

Visiting a national park in Indonesia, photographer David Slater left his camera unattended for a while, and it caught the eye of a narcissistic monkey, part of a pack of endangered black macaques known for their intelligence. Left to their own devices, the macaques turned the camera on and smiled for self-portraits. “They were posing for the camera when one hit the button and kept pressing it,” Slater explains. “He must have taken hundreds of pictures by the time I got my camera back.” The future Facebook albums will be adorable.
