Senator Jay Rockefeller made headlines this morning for threatening vague but “serious” consequences in the United States for News Corp., if it turned out that British journalists had targeted American 9/11 victims. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg has a more specific plan for going after the company, whether or not Americans were directly affected by the hacking scandal. He wants Rupert Murdoch’s American-based corporation investigated under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which “forbids payments to foreign officials.” We don’t like to be left out of a good scandal over here.
