U.S. Now Withholding Millions in Aid From Pakistan

The U.S. is holding back $800 million in aid to Pakistan, White House chief of staff William Daley told ABC’s This Week on Sunday. Senior U.S. officials said the aid was withdrawn in order to pressure Pakistan to crack down on militants and as retribution for expelling U.S. military trainers. The cut-off funding reportedly includes $300 million in compensation for deploying U.S. troops at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, hundreds of millions in military training assistance, and funding for military hardware. The two countries have apparently gone from the going through one another’s cell phones stage to the “trying to work things out” stage. Daley explained:
