38 Killed in Helicopter Crash in Afghanistan

A helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan has killed at least 38 people. It’s believed that the NATO Chinook helicopter was shot down by insurgents during an overnight operation. The New York Times reports that among the dead were 31 Americans, and a tweet from the AP reports that that majority of them were members of Navy SEAL Team Six, the team responsible for killing Osama bin Laden in May. The crash is the deadliest single incident for American forces since the war began nearly a decade ago.
