Alec Baldwin Chats Up Chuck Schumer, Moves Downtown

Alec Baldwin has been awfully busy lately. When he’s not tweeting about 9/11 (among many, many other things) or chatting up lovely young reporters, he’s been thinking about running for mayor. And plotting his move to Soho with his 27-year-old girlfriend, yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas.

But before he leaves the rough section of Central Park West where he’s been surviving by his wits (Baldwin to the Times on his ‘hood: “not a little kind of jewel-box, privileged pocket of the city like some neighborhoods are”), he apparently decided to start a very UWS sort of beef. With … us?

When he’s not playing media critic, Baldwin has been making valuable connections for his next career. The Post (not the Daily News) reports that he networked with political machers in attendance at the East Hampton Library Author Night recently.

Schumer was overheard telling Baldwin, “Oh, I heard a rumor you’re running for mayor.” Baldwin quipped back, “Don’t believe everything you read in the paper.” But Schumer, who mentored disgraced ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner on his mayoral aspirations, responded, “Let’s talk.” Baldwin also chatted up former New York Democratic Party chairwoman Judith Hope at the event.

Weird. It’s almost like an US Weekly subject is gunning for attention from the Atlantic.
