In the mayor’s largest round of layoffs while in office, a total of 777 New York City school employees will lose their jobs come October, with 95 percent of the workers, most of them school aides, coming from one labor union, District Council 37. Bloomberg’s people are happy to place blame: “The unions involved would not agree to any real savings that could have saved these jobs.” [NYT]
