It was easy to ignore Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta’s assertion earlier this week that Muammar Qaddafi’s “days are numbered,” since this exact claim has been made by American officials for months now. But maybe Panetta was actually right this time. As the rebel forces close in on the Qaddafi stronghold of Tripoli after a very successful week of warfare, NBC News is reporting that U.S. intelligence officials believe Qaddafi is “making preparations for a departure from Libya with his family for possible exile in Tunisia” and could “leave within days.” This must be that martyrdom he was talking about.
