This Is Not an Onion Parody of How Fox News Would Cover Obama’s Birthday

It is, in fact, how Fox News covered Obama’s birthday. The subtle racial coding of this presentation might lead you to believe that this was an all-black gathering, but in fact, there are a few other people Fox could have highlighted. From Fox’s own rundown of attendants:

Now, again, you might not realize it from the headline, but none of the live performers were actually hip-hop artists. Jay-Z came strictly as a guest. According to Fox’s own story, there were performances by “R&B singer Ledisi, and Herbie Hancock. Stevie Wonder came up at the end and sang a medley ending in ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.’” So where does the hip-hop part come in? Well, “DJ Cassidy played Motown, hip hop, and ’70s and ’80s R&B.” Which is basically like every white person’s wedding ever, by the way.

Update: Bill Shine, Fox executive vice president of programming in charge of the Fox Nation site, offered this statement to Yahoo’s Cutline blog:
