Lightning Strikes the LIRR

The Long Island Rail Road suspended much of its service Thursday evening after a lightning strike damaged its signal system. The shutdown, which took place in the middle of rush hour, caused quite a scene at Penn Station, with irritated commuters mobbing schedule boards in search of updates and, we assume, conducting many loud, angry conversations on their cell phones. As Wall Streeter and Massapequa resident Ernest Renda told the Daily News, “Every time there’s a weather condition, it knocks out on the Long Island Rail Road.” He added, “I don’t know what to think anymore.” Maybe that God hates the Long Island Rail Road?
