Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit appeared uncomfortable and anxious in the interview he gave on Egyptian television immediately after being released from over five years of captivity by Hamas earlier today. (Egypt helped to broker the deal and served as an intermediary for the swap.) As the interviewer, Shahira Amin, recalls, Shalit “seemed extremely tired, thin and pale, voice very faint, very difficult to concentrate. I had to repeat the questions several times.” That’s understandable, of course. Especially when you consider that armed, masked members of Hamas were there during the interview, in the room, standing directly behind him. That might make it a bit hard to concentrate, no? Not to mention honestly answer questions like, “There are more than 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails. Will you help campaign for their release?” This was more of a propaganda video than an interview.
