The train was traveling under the East River from the Bowling Green stop last night when it came to an abrupt halt and began filling with smoke. It was “well over an hour” until the FDNY and a rescue train were able to get the passengers out of there, according to Gothamist’s James Thilman, who was on the train. For Steven Thrasher, a Village Voice writer who was also on the train and chronicled the incident on his laptop, it was a tense wait. “Had I told anyone I loved them?” one of his entries reads. “Did anyone even know where I was, or when I should be home?” [Runnin’ Scared/VV]
