Two Bulgarians from Canada were indicted on 81 counts yesterday for a debit card scam they allegedly enacted during two “vacation trips” to New York City this year. Dimitar Stamatov and Iordan Ivanov used double-sided tape, pinhole cameras, and skimming devices to steal card and PIN numbers from around 1,500 victims at Chase ATMs near Union Square and Astor Place, with more victims expected. The info was used for nearly $300,000 in purchases and withdrawals. This isn’t doing anything good for tourist–local relations.
