After 50 years as a television host, Regis Philbin has retired, making his final appearance on Live! With Regis and Kelly this morning. Naturally, the event was “star-studded,” with a celeb-filled audience (Tony Danza! Donald Trump!) and a montage of notables doing their best Reeg. Mayor Bloomberg even stopped by to give Regis a key to the city. Before his brief, final words, Regis was treated to a musical tribute à la Rent’s “Seasons of Love” with lyrics re-written just for the host: “995,600 minutes. How do you measure, measure a career?” (These Regis-ized songs have been happening all week.) Oh, and 995,600 minutes is nearly two straight years of host chat, if you’re keeping score at home.
