As banks struggle to charge lowly customers anywhere they can, at least one man is aiming to stop the fee madness. Clinton Townsend, the founder of Free ATMs NYC, has a dream in which people will just watch video ads while they wait for cash (and have another ad printed on their receipt) instead of dropping an average of $2.10 on one use of a non-bank ATM. Townsend is currently testing a fee-free ATM in Brooklyn and hopes to expand across the city and nationwide by next year, promising that the transactions will take no longer than normal. Banks, of course, can still charge their customers a processing fee as punishment for straying.
