Syrian Citizen Journalist Shot and Killed by Security Forces

Twenty-four-year-old Syrian journalist Basil al-Sayed put himself in the line of fire to capture popular uprising in Syria and clashes between protesters and the military. He paid for his efforts with his life.

Security forces, who al-Sayed had filmed opening fire directly at protesters, shot him in the head. He later died at a hospital.

He was documenting stuff that no one could actually get hold of,” activist Rami Jarrah told NPR. “I don’t want to say this was expected, but he was always in those situations where you could expect something would happen to him.”

The video below reportedly shows al-Sayed’s mother and relatives crying over his body before his body bag was sealed.

Warning: Graphic.
