John Edwards Has Some Kind of Life-Threatening, Trial-Delaying Medical Condition

In this mug shot released by the U.S. Marshals Service June 15, 2011, Former U.S. Senator John Edwards (D-NC) is seen. Edwards plead not guilty June 3, 2011 to charges of using campaign funds to help hide a mistress and the baby he had with her.

What, is he allergic to going to prison? Nope, turns out Edwards has some kind of heart condition that will require surgery in February, according to “two letters from a cardiologist.” Consequently, the judge overseeing his campaign-finance fraud trial — prosecutors say the nearly $1 million Edwards received from two rich friends to help cover up his affair with Rielle Hunter were illegal “campaign contributions” — pushed the start date back until at least March 26.

The trial had been previously delayed “after Edwards said he needed more time to prepare his defense and attend his daughter’s wedding.” We’re sure he’ll find some other excuse before March 26 — possibly another body part that he needs surgery on right away.
