DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz insisted today that, even in its proper context, Mitt Romney’s awkward “I like being able to fire people” remark from a rally in New Hampshire yesterday demonstrates “a pattern of insensitivity and callousness” by the Republican front-runner. Obviously, the Democrats welcome anything that helps them to portray Romney as a heartless corporate monster, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the quote turn up in an attack ad later on. Not to mention this quote, from a March 2, 2007, story in the Concord Monitor that we stumbled across:
To hear Mitt Romney tell it, his recent evolution from a supporter of abortion rights to an emphatically anti-abortion presidential candidate is a vote-getter. Far from being a political liability, Romney said, his rightward shift demonstrates a willingness to acknowledge his mistakes.
“If you had somebody in the private sector who didn’t change their mind when they knew they were wrong, you fired them because they were stubborn,” Romney, a former venture capitalist who oversaw the 2002 Winter Olympics, told reporters.
Is that not material for the ultimate Democratic attack ad? Mitt Romney fires people for not flip-flopping!
