The entire nine-person population farming village of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, has spoken, producing a two-way tie on the Republican side between Jon Huntsman and Mitt Romney. Both received two of the six ballots cast for Republicans while Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul each picked up one. The ballot box opened at midnight, according to the Associated Press. Pretty good start for Huntsman.
The last survey taken before polls opened showed Romney way out in first place with 37 percent support, and a virtual tie for second place between Paul and Huntsman who have 18 and 16 percent support, respectively. It’s no surprise then that Nate Silver gives Romney a 99 percent chance of victory.
But it still may be hard to believe that Romney is about to win for one big reason: No Republican presidential candidate has ever won both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary in modern history – unless he was already in the White House.
