Rupert Murdoch’s youngest and increasingly sorry son has given up his spot on the board of Times Newspapers Holdings, which was established with the purpose of maintaining the editorial independence of The Times of London and The Sunday Times after News Corporation bought the papers in 1981. This is the latest in a series of resignations by James, who has stepped down from “dozens” of gigs (including his position as executive chairman of News International and on the boards of Sotheby’s and GlaxoSmithKline) in the apparently endless wake of last year’s phone-hacking scandal.
