Well, this is one way to celebrate having the most viral video ever and/or ignore the loads of criticism: Jason Russell, a co-founder of Invisible Children, the group behind the Kony 2012 campaign, was reportedly arrested last night after “he was found masturbating in public, vandalizing cars and possibly under the influence of something.” The 33-year-old was allegedly seen “in various stages of undress, running through traffic and screaming,” and TMZ says he was wearing “Speedo-like underwear,” but “eventually removed the underwear and began to make sexual gestures.”
A statement from Invisible Children blames the incident on “exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition.”
Russell’s organization skyrocketed to international prominence last week with a controversial online documentary about targeting the Ugandan rebel leader Joseph Kony. The nonprofit’s website gives Russell the nickname “Radical” and calls him the group’s “grand storyteller and dreamer.” He is “a proud papa” to two children and “wants to have nine more children with his beautiful wife.” Oh my. The publicity just keeps coming.
