What’s the Most Annoying Time to Be on Twitter?

Birdies be chirpin’.

If you’re a committed or even occasional user of Twitter, you may have noticed that there are certain times when it seems as if every single user is tweeting, ad nauseum, about the same. exact. thing. Last night, for instance, as Super Tuesday results were announced, was one of those times. Today’s press conference about Apple’s iPad3 was another of those times.

You log on for links to and commentary on a variety of things happening all over, the proverbial cocktail party full of interesting guests. Instead, on these occasions, what you get is a chanting game-night sports bar full of lurching, excitable, group-thinking, impulse-control-free, perspective-challenged drunks. There is a steady stream of the same information repeated (“BEY-BEY’S BAY-BAY IS BLUE IVY”) mixed in with meta in-jokes and context-free statements:  “Whaaat?” “OMG his tie.” “I die.” (This last is usually not actually true.) Sure, sometimes it feels like an enriching, communal experience, and sometimes being in a bar full of lurching drunks is fun! But mostly, even if you are watching the event and experiencing the same emotions and enthusiastically, lurchingly participating in the tweeting, you begin to feel all over again as if you’d never truly understood the word clusterfuck until just that moment.

We began to wonder: what’s the most annoying time to be on Twitter? We were thinking of doing a scientific poll, but then we remembered all those faux March Madness brackets we keep seeing people tweeting about, and we wanted to be #trending. The result is the totally correct and not-at-all-influenced-by-our-personal-tastes process of elimination for determining the exact most annoying time to be on Twitter you see below.

There you have it. If you ventured on to Twitter today and lived to tell the tale … please don’t. We have heard enough about 4G LTE for one afternoon.
