Alec Baldwin Regains His Appetite

Run, Jack! We mean, Alec.

For a while last year, it looked as if Alec Baldwin might run for mayor of New York in 2013, upping the entertainment factor of that race by approximately 1,200 percent. But just when we were getting used to the idea, our dreams were dashed. “I’ve lost my appetite,” Baldwin announced on his weekly podcast in December, adding, “Give this up for what? I give up money and fame and position and success; I give up this wonderful life I have now in exchange for the chance to ‘really change things?’” Surely, Baldwin would continue to possess money and fame and position and success as mayor of New York, but, nevertheless, his message was clear. He was no longer interested in the relatively mundane life of the most powerful person in New York City.

Baldwin still doesn’t seem interested in jumping into the 2013 race, but in an interview with Bloomberg today, he did sound intrigued, once more, by the prospect of running for office in the future:

I have a contract to work for NBC through some point in 2013. We don’t know how long the season is going to be or how long we are going to work, but I do have one more next year of the show to do, contractually. And I extended my contract one year. So right now I am just looking at finishing what is in front of me.

It is something that I would love to do. The only thing that I can suggest is that two years, and especially four years, is an eternity in an American political life, so let’s see what things are like in 2014 and maybe I can find some opportunity. I would love to do it because I’ve had a job that’s been very good to me. I’ve been very lucky and very successful in a lot of ways, but I would still like to consider doing that because I want to — I do a lot of this kind of work now and I wonder what would it be like if I had a staff and budget to do it. That would be interesting.”

That would be interesting! Do it, please. Thanks.
