The artist Ari Marcopoulos, a former assistant to Andy Warhol and longtime documentarian of downtown culture (including the Beastie Boys), charmed us last year by stepping out of his box to make a fan zine dedicated to then–Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler. When Chandler became a New York Knick through some twist of fate, he and Marcopoulos turned into fast friends, and the NBA player features prominently in Marcopoulos’s new solo exhibition, “Wherever you go,” opening this week. The other stars of the show are everyday people on public transit, as captured by Marcopoulos via cell-phone camera in a video called City Riders.
