Amidst pursuit by both the Romney and Obama campaigns, Mayor Bloomberg has finally announced his coveted endorsement for president in 2012. And by “announced,” we mean he spoke a little too loudly in the presence of a Times reporter, who overheard him at a charity event a few days ago. And by “endorsement,” we mean he’s not going to endorse anyone.
Mr. Bloomberg said that he believed Mr. Romney would probably be better at running the country than Mr. Obama, according to two guests.
But Mr. Bloomberg said he could not support Mr. Romney because he disagreed with him on so many social issues, these two people said. The mayor mentioned two such issues: abortion rights and gun control.
As a result, Mr. Bloomberg said, he intended to remain neutral, said one guest.
If only there were someone running for president with Romney’s proven managerial skills and Obama’s liberal social values. Too bad.
