Georgina Bloomberg is pleased with the time and energy her father devoted to the question of whether or not an anti-sex-trafficking bill (designed to penalize taxi drivers who knowingly facilitate prostitution) would discourage cabbies from picking up young ladies dressed in, as the mayor put it, “a sporty way.” And she doesn’t even seem to mind that his public musings on the subject kind of suggested that he thinks she and her sister sometimes look a bit like hookers.

I do worry that if my daughters are out there after they are at, you know, a club, and they come out late at night and they’re dressed a lot more risquely — if that’s a word — than people in my generation did … it does put a taxi driver in a difficult position,” Bloomberg had said.

Speaking to the New York Post about the potential downfalls of the bill, which Bloomberg ultimately decided to sign into law on Friday, Georgina said:

Women show off their bodies at night; it’s just what we do. We shouldn’t have to change that so we can hail a cab.”

“It would be ridiculous to leave it up to a bunch of middle-aged men to judge a woman’s outfit late at night and decide whether they deserve a ride or not,” she told The Post.

Fashion-conscious 70-year-old mayors, however, are free to weigh in whenever.
