Dharun Ravi, who was convicted of bias-intimidation and invasion-of-privacy charges following roommate Tyler Clementi’s suicide, has received two bits of good news. Though he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, as a result of good behavior, he was released on Tuesday after serving only twenty days. Even better, immigration officials announced on Monday that they won’t deport him to India. Seton Hall law professor Lori Nessel told theWall Street Journal, “It doesn’t surprise me, given the sentence that he ultimately received … If he had gotten a much longer sentence then it might have put a lot more pressure or made it much harder for ICE not to move to deport him.”
