A judge in Florida made a surprising reversal today and ordered George Zimmerman back to jail after prosecutors argued that he misled the court as to his finances when he was released on a $150,000 bond in April. “Defendant has intentionally deceived the court with the assistance of his wife,” said a motion filed by the prosecution. “During the jail phone calls both of them spoke in code to hide what they were doing.” Zimmerman, who is charged with second-degree murder in the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, also allegedly failed to turn over his second U.S. passport. He now has 48 hours to surrender to police.

I’m a disabled veteran, and don’t have a great deal of income,” Zimmerman’s father told a judge on April 20. But a week later, defense attorney Mark O’Mara revealed that Zimmerman had raised more than $200,000 through online fund-raising, leading prosecutors to request an increase in his bail. “I’m not going to make a snap decision,” Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. said at the time.

But today, prosecutors reiterated that “this court was led to believe that they didn’t have a single penny,” and this time, Lester ruled in their favor.
