Bloomberg Explains Bike-Share Delay, Shakes Head at Fickle New Yorkers

Though the new Citi Bike program was set to start in late July, this week the start day was pushed back to at least August with no explanation. Today Mayor Bloomberg revealed that computer problems are the culprit. “Its software isn’t working yet,” he said. “And just rest assured we’re not going to put out any program here that doesn’t work.” Bloomberg assured New Yorkers that no city funds are being wasted, and couldn’t resist pointing out that residents have changed their tune about the bikes. “What’s fascinating,” he said, “is there was a lot of screaming, ‘We don’t want bikes,’ and now everybody’s screaming, ‘We want ’em now.’”
