Chatting With Soda-Ban Protesters Outside City Hall

While organizers had hoped that 500 to 1,000 protesters would attend the soda-ban rally — dubbed the Million Gulp March — outside of City Hall yesterday, only sixty or so people were milling around when we stopped by to check out the scene, and the majority of them were members of the media. Those who actually showed up to voice their displeasure with Mayor Bloomberg’s beverage gambit were mostly young, idealistic student-types, but we also ran across a few local politicians and at least one libertarian activist family. To our surprise, some of the people we spoke to don’t even like soda.
