“There’s a new form of video journalism on this platform,” Amy Mitchell, deputy director of the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism, told the Associated Press of Pew’s findings, which follow fifteen months of study of news consumed on the website. “We looked at who was capturing and creating it, and who was posting it, and found that there was a real mix taking place.” News organizations that post videos on YouTube still garner the most hits, but videos by citizens in the midst of dramatic events like the Japanese tsunami and Arab Spring crank the meter, too.
