New York City Had a Violent Week

Sixteen New Yorkers have been killed in just the past five days, with seven dead since Friday evening. Beyond the three young men mowed down by an assault rifle in Queens, the disturbed man killed after stabbing an MTA police officer in the eye, and the 29-year-old Brooklyn teacher fatally stabbed in her Staten Island home, the New York Times and Post are reporting a 7-year-old Bed-Stuy boy bludgeoned to death by his terminally ill mother (who then turned herself in to the police) and a clothing store owner in Bay Ridge shot in the neck. The heat, it seems, is bringing out the worst in everyone.
